We started taking pictures of this huge cathedral and then found out it was build in the 1900's, so I stopped taking photos.
This one didn't turn out quite like I hoped...finger placement is a little off.
This one is bit more accurate.
The reason we went back to Quito in the first place was to wait for our luggage....and guess what? It came!!!! We were so happy it only took a few days instead of an entire week to get to us. I guess we were lucky! So with our luggage in hand we headed east into the jungle, or rather the secondary jungle. Getting into the heartland of the jungle costs a pretty penny so we settled for the next best thing. The bus ride alone was quite the experience. Have you even taken a bus through South America? It's pretty intense. Most of the mountain roads do not have guards on them and the bus drivers drive the bus like it's a motorcycle...the experience almost cured me of my fear of flying, almost.
We had a little tire trouble...
So Brian took the time to buy a snack from this cute little guy.
Side note - it always amazes me how Coca cola is everywhere...even in the jungle of Ecuador!

Our day and a half in Tena included jungle exploring, river swimming, and animal watching.
Peter, we took these monkey photos for you.
Porcupine
Termite nest
Hors devours - popcorn and salsa...random, but good.

We went on a jungle stroll the next morning before leaving for the mountains again. We had to get on another bus, but luckily the ride was only 4 hours so it wasn't too bad.

Love, love, love...what fun you guys get to have! Glad you are back...can we have you guys over for dinner soon?!
Aaliyah and I think you did a great job with the pics. She especially liked the monkey pictures! What a blessing to be able to explore the glorious world the Lord has made for us to enjoy.
Love you both.

Beans, I love your jacket purchases, and the termite nest especially. I can't wait to see you and hear more about your adventure in person! Let's have a "crafternoon" soon!
hi emily,
i came across your blog from joy williams blog, because i actually thought you were my other friends brian and emily! but as i was realizing that this was not who i thought it was i noticed your ecuador posts! i am actually from santa cruz too, but i am a student right now at azusa pacific university in southern california. the reason i am writing to you is because i am getting ready to move to ecuador for 4 1/2 months with my friend ali. we will be interning at a grassroots organization for 3 months of it, but the first month we are just planning on traveling around ecuador.
i was wondering, if it isn't too much trouble, if you could possibly let me know kinda how you planned your trip? i've never really just travelled around a country on my own before and i don't really know how to plan it.
it seems like you guys went to really cool places. how did you get around? what hostels did you stay in? is it relatively easy to get from place to place in ecuador? sorry i know this is a lot! ha. i just got so excited when i saw that you travelled there, because i have never been to south america and i don't know anyone who has spent time in ecuador.
if you can answer any of these questions i would appreciate it so much!! you can email me at rebecca.jhurley@gmail.com
thank you so much,
rebecca
